Job Description

City: Halifax

JOB TITLE: Pastry Chef
Job Duties:
• Creating quality visual food display, especially the customized cake.
• Ensure all pastry kitchen items are prepared to standard.
• Prepare and cook food on a regular basis, or for special guests or functions.
• Plan menus and requisition food and kitchen supplies.
• Create new recipes.
• Prepare and cook complete meals or specialty foods, such as pastries. Create decorative food displays for special events such as banquets.
• Instruct cooks in preparation, cooking, garnishing and presentation of food.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of pastry area and proper storage of all food product.
• To ensure all appropriate provincial health regulations and food handling techniques are followed.
• Clean the kitchen and work area accordingly.
• May train kitchen staff, such as line cook and part-time helpers.
• Adhere to all standards set forth by the management team.

• Work communication in English is required
• Secondary (high) school graduation certificate is required
• Must have a passion for food trends and the culinary arts
• Pastry Culinary degree or certificate is required
• Pastry creative and product design work experience is prefered
• At least 2-3 years related work experience with a focus on pastry
• Available for weekend and holiday shifts
• Ability to work without supervision
• Ability to work quickly and execute line orders within allotted timeframe

Position Details:
• Full time, permanent
• 30-35 hours per week
• Hourly wage from $18.00 to $20.00
